Gators’ Recruiting Wish-List

Posted on 11 December 2009 by Josh Sawyers

christmasgatorsSince it tis the season, the bowl season that is, the on the field action is going to slow down. What else is left for us die hard fans to do but look at recruiting and imagine how the future of the program is going to look. The Gators already have 18 commitments and will probably bring in 22 to 24 players in total for the 2010 class.

No practice for a couple days, so the Gators’ coaching staff is on the road visiting with recruits trying to finish off this class. With National Signing day less than two months away there are still some very big names left. With that in mind here are the top five recruits I still see out there for the Gators.

  • Jordan Hicks Outside Linebacker - Hicks is every recruiting services #1 outside linebacker, and many have said he may be the best in the last three years to play Outside Linebacker. Jordan has great speed and at 6′ 2″ 225lbs he has the frame to add some more weight. Jordan has been high on the Gators all year long, and will be in Gainesville this weekend making an official visit.

  • Ronald Powell Defensive End - At 6′ 4″ 250lbs and a 4.6 40-yard dash time, Ronald Powell would make another great freak defensive end. Powell’s speed rush is too fast for just about every offensive tackle. Ronald is college ready size, and like Hicks will be able to bulk up over the next couple years. Powell has it down to the Gators and USC. Powell has hinted that he wants to go to college with Joshua Shaw, who already gave his commitment to the Gators.

  • Seantrel Henderson Offensive Tackle - Seantrel Henderson is one that you need to check out. He dominated the defensive line last year as a Junior. All the scouting services have him as their top lineman of the 2010 class. The Gators are one of 50 plus teams that are recruiting this 6′7″ 295 lbs stud. Check out the tape for your self.
  • Cody Riggs Cornerback - The Saint Thomas Aquinas High School is loaded at the corner spot. FSU just picked his teammate Lamarcus Joyner. He has great speed and has been clocked with at 4.43 40-yard dash. Riggs would make a great running partner with Joshua Shaw. Riggs will need to put on some size to be a true cover corner in the SEC. As the article was being posted Rivals.com reported Riggs became the Gators 19th commitment in the 2010 class.

  • Chris Dunkley Wide Receiver - Chris Dunkley is a PLAYMAKER. That is really all you need to know about him, but I’ll give you a little more. He is fast, runs great routes, and has good hands. Dunkley’s only knock is his size; at 5′ 11″ and 165lbs, he is not the big physical receiver that the Gators could use. I’ve heard many reports that Dunkley is a solid Gator commit, but he still has taken other visits and may be one that doesn’t commit till National Signing Day.

Other players on the short list include defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa, offensive tackle Chaz Green, d-end Chris Martin, and wide receiver Ivan McCartney. The Gators lost out to FSU on Jeff Luc and Lamarcus Joyner. I twas little bit of a shock on both players as Ohio St seemed to be in the lead for Lamarcus Joyner, while the Gators’ loss of Charlie Strong and the pick up of Eddie Gran for FSU helped them to land Luc.

Florida Gator Commitment Mack Brown’s Highlight Tape

Posted on 06 November 2009 by Josh Sawyers

The complete package at RB. Brown can run inside or outside and has the speed to be a threat to take it the distance at any time. Mack should be ready to see the field early as Tebow moves on and the John Brantley era starts.

Can the Gators pull WR Kenny Stills out of Cali?

Posted on 23 August 2009 by Josh Sawyers

With Stephen Alli coming in early, the Gators are still in the market for another Wide Receiver for the class of 2010.

Kenny Still come on to Gainesville

Kenny Still come on to Gainesville

Kenny Stills could be the player to fill that spot. Kenny is a 6′ 1″ and 171 lbs WR out of California. ESPN has him ranked at #38  in the WR class of 2010, while Rivals has him ranked #22, and Scout reports him as the #6 best WR. Kenny would fit in well with the speedy Gators. He posted a 4.3 time in the 40 yard dash.Everyone raves about how well he runs routes and how great his balance is once he is running with the ball.

As a high school Junior he caught 62 passes for 1,500 yards and 17 TDs. Kenny is also being recruited by UCLA, Oklahoma, Penn State, Cal, Tennessee, Michigan, LSU, USC, Nebraska, Stanford, Arizona State, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Boise State, Arizona, and San Diego State.
