Jack Youngblood says Gators fans should be patient with Muschamp

Former Gators great Jack Youngblood says that Florida fans need to be patient as Will Muschamp changes from Urban Meyer’s offense to a pro-style offense.

“A transition year is always going to be difficult,” Youngblood said. “Nobody comes in and jumps to the national championship in one year. You’re changing languages and you’re changing people. You’re trying to find out who can play and who can’t. We’re spoiled as Gator fans. We got used to having a winning team in the hunt constantly and putting points on the board and having a defense that shut people down. It was disappointing this year, but understandable.”

Youngblood saw a lot of promise this year, especially from sophomores Sharrif Floyd and Ronald Powell. As he pointed out, Florida’s defense finished in the top 10 in the country in fewest yards allowed.

“We’ve had an abundance of talent in this state and the southeast and we have a product to sell,” Youngblood said. “We’ve got a reputation there that is worthy of any athlete in the country. I don’t think we’re hurting from that perspective. I’m very supportive of Will. He’s on the right track. I’ve seen that fire and I think that inspires young guys. And he was adaptable. A coach has to be adaptable when he comes into a new team and brings his philosophy to the table.”
