Florida junior Ronald Powell will undergo surgery next week to repair the ACL he tore during the Orange and Blue game on April 7.
The injury was a bog blow for Powell who had really impressed during spring practice this year.
“Freak deal. Non-contact injury running across the pile. It’s one of those things. Part of playing the game,” said Muschamp”.
Florida has set a timetable for Powell’s return at 4-6 months, meaning he could be back as early as fall camp or at some point during the season. While recovery can often take longer, Muschamp said Powell has been focused on rehabbing now to get prepared for his surgery.
“The swelling is down. Nobody will work harder in the country than Ronald Powell,” said Muschamp. “I told him after the game, ‘It’s a setback.’ And he looked at me (and said), ‘It’s not a setback. I’m going to be fine.’ So the guy’s got an amazing attitude for where he is right now. I’m really proud of him.
“He’s being very aggressive in what he’s doing,” Muschamp added. “He’s living in the training room. He’s doing everything they ask and then some. I won’t be against Ronald, I can tell you that.”
