Gators Offer Juco Offensive Tackle Scholarship

by David on February 29, 2012

Florida offered Milledgeville, Ga., offensive tackle Trenton Brown last week.

“Coach (Will) Muschamp called my coach and then talked to me,” Brown said. “He told me he was offering me a scholarship to Florida and that he wants me at Florida next year.”

The lack of depth on the offensive line was something Muschamp used as a recruiting tool for the 6-foot-8, 350-pound Brown.

“He told me they are losing some offensive linemen this year,” Brown said. “He said they only signed two last year and they needed more. Coach also said that Florida is a good situation for me as I can play early at Florida.”

Muschamp Gets Contract Extension – Why?

by David on February 28, 2012

Will Muschamp is obviously doing something right behind the scenes as Florida has extended his contract, adding a year to his original five-year deal according to the Sporting News. The new deal ensures that Muschamp will be at Florida through the 2016 season.

Muschamp’s original contract was a five-year, $13.75 million deal (averaging $2.75 million a year). The one-year extension doesn’t include an increase in salary.

“We’re building something long-term here,” Muschamp said. “We have an incredible amount of support from our administration. On a scale of 1-10, we’re an 11 right now as far as excitement about where we’re headed.”

James Wilson seeking sixth year of eligibility

by David on February 24, 2012

Florida left guard James Wilson is seeking a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA, a school spokesman confirmed earlier this week.

The 6-foot-4, 334-pound Wilson has played in 37 games with five starts in his career for the Gators. As a prep player, Rivals.com ranked him as a five-star recruit and the nation’s 12th-overall prospect.

Wilson redshirted his first year at UF, then missed the final 10 games of the 2010 season with a left knee injury. There is no timetable for the NCAA to make a decision, but UF is hopeful to have an answer by the start of spring practice. Wilson played in 11 games with no starts this past season.

Will Yeguete Fractures Left Foot

by David on February 23, 2012

Big blow for the University of Florida men’s basketball team heading into March Madness as sophomore power forward Will Yeguete, playing in his second game since suffering a concussion against Tennessee a week and a half ago, came down awkwardly on his left foot during the second half of the game against Auburn on Tuesday and has been diagnosed with a fracture in his left foot.

Florida trainer David “Duke” Werner texted that Yeguete had broke his fifth metatarsal and that he was out indefinitely.

Gators coach Billy Donovan wasn’t so open-minded saying:

The Florida Gators have announced their 2012 spring football practice schedule. And in a great move, two practices will be open to the public .

The Gators will begin practicing on Wednesday, March 14 and fans will be allowed to watch the team practice on Friday, March 16 from 4:25 p.m. to 6:35 p.m. and on Saturday, March 17 from 12:55 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. These practices will be free.

The Gators spring practice session will conclude on April 7 with the Orange & Blue Debut, presented by Sunniland, at 1:00 p.m. in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Admission is free for Students, Gator Boosters, Alumni Association members and F Club members. A limited supply of free tickets is also available Florida Farm Bureau offices.

Muschamp Looking Forward To Spring Practice

by David on February 20, 2012

The start of spring practice is less than a month away for Florida, and it can’t get here soon enough for Will Muschamp, who is desperate to whip away the taste of a last season’s disappointing season.

He knows exactly what has to change if the Gators are going to go from a 7-6 team to a team that has a chance to be in Atlanta playing for the SEC championship in 2012.

Big Recruiting Weekend For Gators

by David on February 20, 2012

Will Muschamp continues to be a phenomenal job recruiting as Florida’s junior day on Saturday was a huge success as six of the top recruits in the state told UF coaches they would be playing for the Gators next season.

The star recruit was Kelvin Taylor, the son of the former Gators and NFL star running back Fred Taylor. Taylor is a 5’10″, 190-pound running back out who is said to have a nice blend of power, speed, quickness and natural instincts. Taylor is a four-star recruit and chose the Gators over Alabama.

Gators’ A.C. Leonard Facing Domestic Charge

by David on February 16, 2012

More off the field problems at the University of Florida as freshman tight end A.C. Leonard was taken to jail Wednesday night following a dispute with his girlfriend that allegedly turned physical.

Leonard was charged with domestic battery and made his first court appearance on Thursday morning. According to the Gainesville Police Department arrest report, the case involves a woman Leonard has been dating for the past 17 months and lived with for the past month. The report states that following an argument Leonard shoved the woman forcibly with both hands in her chest/neck area, knocking her down. She said she hit her head on a dog cage behind her.

The Florida Gators suffered a big blow on Saturday when forward Will Yeguete ran into a stanchion behind the basket and was knocked unconscious. Yeguete also needed 10 stitches for a cut over his eye. He suffered a concussion, his second of the year. He is not expected back in the near future.

Rachel George of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Yeguete was not expected back this week and could in fact miss several weeks due to the injury. Head coach Billy Donovan said that the player was not experiencing dizziness but will need rest.
